We at LA Alarms are delighted to announce the successful completion of a new intruder-alarm system at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff.

Why this project mattered
Llandaff Cathedral stands on one of Britain’s oldest Christian sites, with a history going back to the 6th century and a building whose present fabric dates from the Norman period around 1120.
Within its rich heritage it houses many precious artworks — including the celebrated triptych Seed of David by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
Because of this high-value environment — both in terms of heritage fabric and priceless art — the cathedral’s insurers and the cathedral’s own leadership selected LA Alarms based on our proven expertise in protecting high-value and sensitive locations.
What we delivered
- A fully bespoke intruder-alarm system tailored for the complex historic structure and sensitive internal spaces.
- Strategic placement of sensors, detectors and control units so as to protect the Rossetti triptych and other valuable items, while respecting the architecture’s integrity.
- Integration with the insurer’s requirements for heritage-grade monitoring and rapid response.
- Minimal disruption to regular worship, visitors and heritage conservation activities — a priority for the cathedral team.
- Full commissioning and hand-over, including training for cathedral staff in operating and testing the system.
Why LA Alarms was chosen
- Our track-record in high-value environments — particularly heritage, museum, gallery and ecclesiastical sites — set us apart.
- We understand the dual challenge of security and conservation: protecting priceless items without compromising the aesthetics or structure of a historic building.
- We work closely with insurers to ensure systems meet their criteria for risk-reduction.
- We deliver a client-centred service: clear communication, flexibility and respect for the client’s daily operations.
The impact
Thanks to the new system:
- The Rossetti triptych and other irreplaceable artworks now benefit from continuous, professionally monitored protection.
- The cathedral’s overall security posture is strengthened, reducing risk of intrusion, theft or damage.
- The cathedral leadership and insurers can take assurance from a modern, bespoke solution created for this unique building.
